MikroTik CHR has currently the following 4 levels licensing scheme. MikroTik CHR has full RouterOS features enabled by default but has a different licensing model based on upload bandwidth than other RouterOS versions. It supports both x86 and 64-bit architecture and can be used on most of the popular hypervisors such as VMWare, Hyper-V, VirtualBox, KVM and others. So, RouterOS application is not suitable for the Trainee or not suitable to RND purpose. Full RouterOS packages cannot be used more than 24 hours without license. RouterOS installation on Physical or Virtual Machine has license limitations. We are going to use Vultr to install MikroTik RouterOS to use the-dude monitoring and notification package used to monitor our core and business customers.MikroTik is found both RouterBoard where RouterOS and License are prebuilt and RouterOS Application that can be installed on a Physical Machine or Virtual Machine.
Depending on the number of Routers and simultaneously registered customer you need to choose enough resources for your instance. Hotspot controller is one of the most popular RouterOS services.Redundancy is always important, make sure to create more than one instance for your CAPsMAN For cloud-based CAPsMAN the shortest route-path is the best.For VPN service depends on the number of your customers and distribution it is recommended to have multiple instances close to each group of the customer to reduce latency and security risk.For Usermanager/Radius-server it is recommended to host the RouterOS in a location with the shortest route path to your colocation.For the-dude monitoring and notification service, it’s recommended to create more than one instance in different locations to monitor your customer’s services more efficiently.Find a location where you want to host your service.
